General
Is it safe in Colombia?
Colombia has changed dramatically over the past decade. The routes and excursions are carefully planned to avoid any problematic areas and your guide knows these roads and areas intimately. That said, this is a real adventure or excursion — not a sanitized trip. You'll be traveling on remote roads in a foreign country, so a reasonable level of street sense and adaptability is expected.
Do I need travel insurance for a motortrip?
Yes, travel insurance with medical and emergency evacuation coverage is mandatory. It's not included in the trip price. We’re happy to point you toward trusted insurance providers that cover adventure motorcycle travel, such as World Nomads, SafetyWing, Heymondo, or Allianz Travel. Coverage varies, so we always recommend choosing a plan that specifically includes motorcycle riding and adventure activities.
Do I need a driver’s license for a motortrip?
Yes, you need a valid motorcycle driver’s license. Your national license is sufficient and can be used in Colombia for up to three months from the date of the entry stamp in your passport. If you extend your tourist stay for another three months, you can continue using your license for the duration of your stay.
Do I need a returnticket when I come to Colombia?
Officially; yes. Unofficially; no. Migration will not ask for your return ticket. It's the task for the Airline to check. KLM does not ask, but Avianca will not let you on the plane without a return ticket shown. If you're travelling here on a one-way ticket and don't want to take any risks, you can book an onward ticket at https://onwardticket.com/en. This based on personal experience and is provided for informational purposes only. Airline policies and immigration requirements can change without notice. Always verify current requirements with the airline and relevant authorities before travelling. We are not responsible for any denied boarding or immigration issues.
Do I need vaccinations for Colombia?
Vaccinations are not mandatory for entry into Colombia. Yellow fever vaccination is highly advised and it is recommended to be up to date on standard vaccinations such as DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, polio), and hepatitis A. Hepatitis B and typhoid may also be worth considering.
What riding gear should I bring for a motor adventure?
What riding gear should I bring? Motorcycle gear is very personal, so we strongly recommend bringing your own. A helmet is available, but we advise using your own, especially if you wear glasses, as fit and comfort make a big difference. A good-quality waterproof jacket, pants, boots and gloves are very important. Keep in mind that temperatures can get quite high, so lightweight and well-ventilated gear is highly recommended. For your luggage, you’ll need a waterproof soft bag for use on the bike and optionally a small backpack for day-to-day essentials.
Can I bring pets when I stay at Casa Tierra Libre?
Yes, you can bring your pets to stay with you at Casa Tierra Libre. Be aware that we also have a cat Raya living in the house and she loves attention.
Is Colombia expensive?
Colombia is still considered an affordable destination compared to Europe and North America. Costs depend on your travel style, but local food, transportation, accommodations and activities are generally reasonably priced. Popular tourist cities like Cartagena and Medellín can be more expensive, especially in trendy or tourist-focused areas. Overall, Colombia offers great value for travelers looking for culture, nature, adventure and authentic experiences on a moderate budget.
How do I get to Cali?
The easiest way to reach Cali is by flying into Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport, located about 30 minutes from the city center. The airport receives domestic flights from major Colombian cities such as Bogotá, Medellín, and Cartagena, as well as international connections through hubs in Latin America and the United States. You can also reach Cali by long-distance bus from other cities in Colombia, though travel times can be quite long due to the mountain roads. For travelers exploring the region, private transport and organized transfers are also widely available.
