Safety
One of the most common questions we receive is about safety in Colombia — and we completely understand why. For many people, the image of Colombia has been shaped by films, documentaries and old stereotypes that no longer reflect the reality of the country today.
The truth is that Colombia is far more welcoming, friendly and diverse, than many people expect. By continuing to view the country only through the lens of its past, we often do a disservice to the people who live here and work hard to build a positive future for their communities. Of course, like anywhere in the world, there are areas and situations that require common sense and awareness. We do not pretend that problems do not exist. However, the reality for travelers is very different from the image often portrayed internationally and issues are generally not directed towards tourists specifically.
The neighborhood of Casa Tierra Libre and the surrounding area have a relaxed, local atmosphere with a genuine community feeling. People know their neighbors, local businesses support one another and there is a strong sense of everyday normal life. It is a place where travelers can feel comfortable while still experiencing the authentic side of Cali.
Colombia has a well-developed and modern healthcare system. The hygiene and food safety standards are generally good.
